This is a Paul Pernot family wine. They are known in the Burgundy region for their whites, in particular their Chardonnays. Rich, toasty nose with an oak character, but then adds further complexity in the form of nuts, minerally gunpowder, citrus, and ripe melon. Full body with high acidity. Very intense and good grip. Nice butteriness which is not over-powering. Classic and quite splendid.

Le Clos des Mouches is one of Beaune's most highly respected Premier Cru vineyards. Unusually for the Pinot Noir-dominated vineyards of Beaune, both red and white wines made here are held in high regard, the latter made from Chardonnay. Clos de Mouches Premier Cru wines are generally quite rich and complex, the white wines exhibiting a minerally edge and the reds giving a spicy, earthy character.

Acid and tannin are firm, yet not overwhelming; in youth, at least, fruit predominates. This balanced, powerful wine becomes more nuanced with age, and it often holds for more than a decade.
