Kara’s mission is to support people of all ages on their journey through grief with hope and healing. Founded in 1976, Kara offers a safe and caring environment for those in our Bay Area community who are coping with death and dying. Through peer counseling, grief-related therapy and crisis response, Kara provides compassionate grief support and education. Peer support services are provided without charge by extraordinary Kara volunteers with experience in healing from personal loss. All volunteers are carefully screened and provided with extensive training and on-going support. As a hub for professional caregivers and grief support organizations, Kara is able to connect people with appropriate and personalized resources. As a nonprofit organization, Kara relies on the generosity of the community to sustain its services.
