The photo you see is of our recently concluded Grief Camp where over 75 youth ages 6 to 17 spent three amazing days processing their grief from the death of a parent, sibling or loved one by illness, suicide, murder, car accident etc. Kara's devoted staff and volunteers made up the camp counselor team which averaged one counselor for every 2 campers. The ratio is so low because the camp is so intense. It provides about SEVEN months of grief therapy per camper in just 3 days. Kara's team of grief counsels are with them 24/7 during camp as the youth examine their grief and gain skill sets to understand their Past, Present and Future.
Few things will knock our lives out of balance more quickly than unresolved grief.
As we all know, grief comes in many forms... the death of a family member or friend, or a beloved pet. Even a lost friendship, job, divorce or not getting into the college you wanted will trigger grief. It is my sincere belief that when processed in a healthy way grief provides us with our Core Emotional Growth and Coping Tools.
It is well documented that unresolved grief factors into addictive behaviors like alcoholism and drug abuse, domestic violence, and crime. In short, it stunts our emotional maturity leaving us less than whole as a person.
And Please, keep telling and showing those you love just how much you love them. Because, Love Works!
